Proof that there just might be a museum for everything, the nearby Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia pays tribute to that icon of American pop culture, the Pez candy dispenser. From Bullwinkle to Batman, Pez has produced more than 900 unique characters in its 50+ year history. Visitors can view them all in this fun-filled museum, take pictures with a towering Pez snowman (a Guiness Book of World Records winner in 2007) and, of course, purchase new and vintage Pez products in the gift shop.
But before you leave, make sure to take a peek at the adjacent Banned Toy Museum, a showcase of some seriously ill-conceived playthings, including the matador-attired Spanish Barbie and a 1959 Belt Buckle gun that fired – you guessed it! – toy bullets. The number one banned toy, though, was the well-equipped 1951 Atomic Energy Laboratory. With four for Uranium-bearing ore samples, it was all your budding nuclear engineer needed to get started on the road to world annihilation.
