The Man Behind the Mouse
If you loved “Saving Mr. Banks,” we know you’ll adore San Francisco’s Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio. It’s the work of the Disney family (rather than the corporation) and it features a magnificently curated collection of Disney’s drawings (including the earliest known sketches of Mickey) and personal artifacts, as well as interactive galleries about his life. They also have temporary exhibits that celebrate other animators and artists in the same spirit as old Walt. On Saturdays and Sundays, join museum visitors and guests of San Francisco area hotels for the museum’s drop-in Open Studio, where you can explore a creative process – selected activities have included everything from storytelling to stop motion animation. There’s also a theatre screening Disney classics at 1:30 and 4 pm daily, except Tuesdays. This month, the feature film is Mary Poppins, naturally.
